Sugar is a young baseball prospect from the Dominican Republic that gets called up to the minor leagues to play for a Kansas City farm team. It follows him from his impoverished home of DR to the US and his ups and downs with the whole process.

Looks like a good movie. Is it based on a real person or just a vague mixture of all foreign-born baseball players melded into one character?
ReplyDeleteThe actor was actually a local baseball player that was trying to get into the majors just like the character he plays. Real players were used so the pitching and everything is legit. It's more of an amalgamation of the experience most of these guys go through.
